Riding in Ol Pejeta plus Samburu 4x4 Safari
This Itinerary is for our 14 day standard Horse Riding Safari. It includes 3 nights camping with all other nights spent at Tharua's luxury accommodation.
The cost of this 14 day safari is £1,750 per person (Discounts available for groups of 6). Please see our FAQ to see what is and what isn't included in the cost.
DAY 1
Arrive Nairobi am. Transfer by road to Tharua, driving through the beautiful Kikuyu Highlands, arriving in time for lunch. Relax, unpack, ready for sundowners and supper in the roundhouse. Flying transfers to a nearby airstrip are also available at a cost of £80 per person.
DAY 2.
Relax and enjoy a day at the farm. Early risers can watch the sun rise over the mountain, or go for a walk or lie in and spend a leisurely day around the farm. A short ride to get accustomed to the horses and find some local game.
DAY 3.
Early start to Solio Game Reserve in the 4x4 Land Cruiser which boasts the highest concentration of rhino in the world. Picnic lunch in the park and either return to the farm or stay for an evening game drive. (It's up to you, its your holiday after all).
DAY 4.
Ride to Nyakio Primary School which your holiday is helping to support, we have already built 8 new classrooms, and a new kitchen, with help from friends and guests. We also have 12 children sponsored for secondary school.
DAY 5/6/7.
Three-day riding safari on Ol Pejeta conservancy amongst the game, where you could see elephant, rhino, ostrich, giraffe, baboon, zebra, all types of buck and all the big cats! Ol Pejeta is 90,000 acres of native bush and is one of the largest private game parks in East Africa . The riding consist of two or three hours each morning, a long and leisurely lunch and either a ride in the afternoon or an evening game drive. The camps are selected for their diversity and beauty in the heart of the bush (don't expect 5*). Non riders will be taken on game drives in the 4x4, while the riders are on the horses.
DAY 8.
A day to relax at the farm and enjoy the pampering of our staff. A trip to the equator for some African gifts and lunch at the Trout Tree Restaurant.
DAY 9.
Travel to Buffalo Springs, part of the Samburu Eco system. Picnic lunch on arrival, a swim in a warm natural spring, while enjoying some of the most spectacular scenery and a great diversity of wild life (lots of elephant). An overnight camp under the Acacia trees beside the river.
DAY 10.
Early game drive and camp breakfast, before crossing the river into Samburu National Reserve and lunch at a luxury lodge. Evening game drive and a sundowner, with a view to die for before returning for dinner.
DAY 11.
Early morning game drive (in case you missed something). Breakfast then a drive through the park on the way back to Tharua.
DAY 12.
A day to relax by the pool, have a massage or enjoy a walk in the local area.
DAY 13.
We leave this up to you, riding, shopping or just relaxing.
DAY 14.
Return to Nairobi We leave this open due to variation in flight times, but rest assured we won't let you get bored.
Our itinerary may vary due to road conditions etc.
If you wish to have a day to relax, feel the need for some retail therapy or if you do not wish to ride, the land rover can take you to the bush camps or fishing in the Aberdares can be arranged, or climbing Mount Kenya. You may even just like to sit and relax at the farm, just let us know. Don't treat this as just a holiday, it could be a life changing experience, it was for us!!
